Both of the writers have been married before, their marriage to each other being the second marriage for both of them. Since they had already done the white wedding version, they decided that they wanted it to be fun, and also wanted to find a way to incorporate the guests instead of them just showing up and then going home without interacting with the wedding party much or the bride and groom. They decided that, if their wedding party were zombie apocalypse survivors, they could interact with their guests by having them dress up as zombies, and the wedding photos would include a zombie attach by the guests themselves.
